Wait, when did this happen? Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling Elon Musk ‘toxic’, tells American’s to go ‘where happiness is’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has announced she’s resigning from Congress on January 5, 2026, and in a recent X post, she slammed the door on Elon Musk‘s favorite platform on the way out.

On November 25, 2025, in an X post, Greene called the Musk-owned platform “toxic, hateful, and divisive,” and urged Americans to find their happiness beyond their screens. The remarks come amid a broader shakeup in Greene’s political trajectory.

According to Greene, only a small fraction of Americans engage on the platform: “Only 20% of Americans are on X.” She went on to warn, “And this is where the Political Industrial Complex controls a hive mind with hyper partisan politics. It’s toxic, hateful, and divisive.”

She argued that foreign actors pay for many accounts that post and comment all day with “targeted talking points” to sway public opinion.

Greene went on to say, “Real life exists without a phone, tablet, or computer… Real life is tangible, involves relationships with people, productive work, and all the fun amazing adventures the beautiful world has to offer. Real life among common Americans is what holds this country up and where the solutions for our future reside. Most of all, it’s where happiness is.”

Greene’s turnabout on social media

Her sentiment echoes comments she made on ABC’s The View, where she blamed what she called the “Political Industrial Complex” for poisoning political discourse, calling it “toxic garbage.” In that appearance, she struck a conciliatory tone, speaking of the need to “pave a new path” and urging “women of maturity” to help heal a divided country.

Greene’s about-face on social media is notable in part because several of her most controversial political positions first circulated widely on those platforms. Before entering Congress, Greene promoted elements of the QAnon conspiracy theory. That included claims that a hidden cabal of elites controlled global events.

She also spread unfounded theories claiming the Parkland and Las Vegas mass shootings were staged. She promoted the baseless idea that space lasers caused California wildfires. And many of these beliefs spread through Facebook groups, fringe YouTube channels, and hyper-partisan Twitter threads. Greene was an active participant in many of them before later distancing herself from some of the claims.

The Greene-MAGA falling out

Greene’s broader break with Musk’s vision of public discourse comes during a period of growing disillusionment in her own political path. Once a firebrand of the MAGA movement, she stunned many when she announced her resignation from Congress. Greene cited a bitter fallout with Donald Trump, saying she could no longer endure “a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for.”

In her resignation video, Greene said she had “always been despised in Washington, D.C., and just never fit in.” She also lamented being sidelined by her own party leadership, suggesting that her bill proposals “just sit collecting dust.”

Greene has not shied away from criticizing Trump publicly, pointing to policy differences over issues like health care, foreign policy, and even the controversial Jeffrey Epstein files.

She specifically called out his reluctance to fully release Epstein-related documents. She said, “Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich, powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the president of the United States, whom I fought for.”

Trump’s response to Greene’s resignation has been sharply personal. He called her exit “great news for the country.” President Trump reportedly told ABC News he had no plans to speak with her further. In a Truth Social post, he mocked her as “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown.” He claimed her decision stemmed from “PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement.”
