Vulnerable elderly woman targeted in 'cruel' charity shop theft

A 'vulnerable elderly' woman was targeted in a charity shop theft.

The woman had her bag stolen as she shopped in Willowbrook Hospice shop, in St Mary's Arcade, St Helens, at 3.15pm on Wednesday, May 18. The bag, which contained her mobile phone and other personal items, had been hooked over her shopping trolley.

Police investigating the incident have now issued CCTV images of a man they believe has information that could help their enquiries. Officers are asking the public to help identify the man pictured.

Inspector Leach of Merseyside police said: "The victim in this case has been left extremely upset by what happened. It is unimaginably cruel to think that anyone could target a vulnerable elderly woman in this way.

"The fact that this happened in a charity shop only makes the thief’s actions more abhorrent. We have now issued stills of a man we believe could have information that may prove vital to our enquiries.
