Vonn Bell, the latest splash by the Cincinnati Bengals in free agency, isn’t shy about his goals.
He wants to change the culture of the Bengals.
Bell is one of a few big-name free agents with playoff experience signed by the Bengals this offseason and he didn’t hold back when asked about why he thinks the Bengals made it happen, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:
“I guess they said enough is enough and drew a line in the sand and they went and got some guys that can play the game and love the game. It creates a standard, it creates a culture. Guys that have been there in the atmosphere and they just want to bring the atmosphere to Cincinnati and that’s what we plan to do.”
A self-described “dog that leads the alpha males,” Bell sounds more than ready to go:
“Give them energy. Give them life. Give them another coach on the field. Give them a leader. A guy that’s been around. A guy that’s played a lot of ball at a young age and he knows how to win and getting a God-fearing man, too. You get all that in one. I can’t wait to get around my teammates.”
Bell arrives as a leader in the secondary for a defense seeking stability. He’ll find himself joined by new arrivals to the unit such as Mackenise Alexander and Trae Waynes, never mind the other arrivals.
There’s no sugar-coating the fact Zac Taylor wanted a revamped roster, if not culture going into Year 2 after having little time to approach last offseason after inheriting a roster constructed by the last man on the job.
If readers couldn’t tell, Bell figures to be instrumental in this regard.
