Volunteers thank Lanarkshire folk for help in making Christmas special for kids

A team of kind-hearted volunteers have thanked people across Lanarkshire for donating toys to underprivileged children.

The all-female group run the Helping to Support Families in Lanarkshire Facebook page.

They all represent different areas of Lanarkshire and try to help where they can.

However, the community in Cambuslang have been singled out for their generosity.

A spokeswoman told Lanarkshire LIve : “No child should go without a few toys on Christmas Day.

"We have managed to make sure at least 20 families have gifts and more stuff is coming into us.

“People from Cambuslang especially have been very generous and very kind. I have been overwhelmed by the caring and kindness shown.

"They have helped so many families have a brighter Christmas.”

The group has urged anyone who is struggling for items to get in touch and they’ll try to help as much as possible.

And the spokeswoman added: “We are a group of women who are trying to help people who are struggling.

"Things have been difficult for people due to COVID and of course because of Universal Credit.

“The group was made to help people. We’ve all been there and know what it’s like to have nothing.

“This year more people have come forward. We have people asking for food most days.”

They accept donations of any kind from furniture to food, to help those in need.

However they are currently holding their annual Christmas appeal to be able to provide children with toys and families with trees.
