Vodafone 5G service goes live in Edinburgh with 'Wi-Fi-like speeds on the move'

Vodafone's 5G service has gone live in Edinburgh, with customers now able to experience "Wi-Fi-like speeds on the move".

The development will allow people to use services such as Spotify Premium, Amazon Prime Video and Sky Sports Mobile TV at speeds of up to ten times faster.

5G has also been introduced in Belfast and Leeds, and expanded in Greater Manchester with the towns of Cheadle, Rochdale and Stockport.

They describe Edinburgh as a city as a "thriving technology city: where data usage has grown by more than 90 per cent in the last two years.

Vodafone also say that 5G roaming has been brought to five locations in the Republic of Ireland, adding to its coverage in Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Nick Jeffery, chief executive officer, said: "We have started the new year as we mean to go on. We now offer 5G in double the number of places than our nearest rival and we have significantly boosted the capacity of our network. It is ready for the arrival in 2020 of some great new 5G handsets and the next big software release bringing ultra-low latency. Together, these will push 5G to the next level."
