In-person visits to prisoners at the state's jails - including those at Cessnock and Muswellbrook - will once again be allowed from Monday after NSW Corrective Services suspended them in March as a COVID-19 precaution.
Visitors to the prisons will have to abide by precautions such as mask-wearing, physical distancing and 30-minute sessions as part of ongoing measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
There will also be a limit of two visitors per inmate.
Video conference visits, introduced earlier this year, will continue and a phone line for bookings for in-person visits will open from Thursday.
"Correctional facilities are particularly vulnerable environments and we all need to work together to reduce the risk of COVID-19 entering our centres," corrections Commissioner Peter Severin said.
"I want to thank the families and friends of people in custody for their patience during this challenging time and for also embracing the new video visits we have introduced."
