Virgin Media presenter Elaine Crowley admits she will never be able to afford a home in Dublin

TV star Elaine Crowley has admitted she will never be able to afford a home in Dublin.

The Virgin Media presenter may be one of the most recognisable faces on television as her daytime TV show ‘Elaine’ goes from strength-to-strength, but the 41-year-old said she will have to keep renting for the moment.

“I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never be able to buy my own house in Dublin.

“It is nuts, absolutely crazy, you are renting for years, then you can’t save for a deposit, then you can’t get a mortgage, the cost of a one bedroom apartment here is outrageous.

"It is impossible if you are on your own. I am coming to terms with that at the moment. As hard and all as it is for me to admit it, I don’t think I will ever be able to afford my own place.”

Speaking about the stress of buying a house in our current climate, Elaine admits that it does upset her but she won’t let it consume her.

“It stresses me hugely but I have had to put that in a bubble and blow it away as I am not having any more sleepless nights over it. At least I don’t have kids, the worry about where will I house my children but in general it is a worry. What the Government have been doing and the homeless policy over the last few years has been borderline criminal.”

“They should hang their heads in shame for what they have let the country become. It is worse than the Celtic Tiger years, now there seems to be a deliberate ploy. Even the UN have said the housing policy is a violation of our human rights and it is but unless you have struggled yourself, you don’t know what a struggle is and you won’t have any empathy.”

Elaine and her nine siblings recently did a shoot for RSVP magazine in the glorious Castlemartyr Resort in East Cork.

And while she is considered one of Ireland’s best loved celebrities, Elaine confessed she doesn’t get any special treatment at home, with her family ensuring she doesn’t get ahead of herself.

“They are very mean to me! They are frightened I will get a big head, so they are always at me,” she said.

“They scare me. In fairness, I know I am privileged and spoilt but they can knock me into place fairly fast," she jokingly added.
