Virgin Atlantic drops new Edinburgh to Barbados winter flight route

Virgin Atlantic has announced the Edinburgh to Barbados flight route will not operate this winter 2022/23.

The route was only introduced in December 2021 from the capital to the popular winter holiday destination in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Passengers who have already booked flights using this route will be contacted by the airline directly. They will be given the option to either be directed to fly from Manchester airport or receive a full refund on their flights.

Manchester airport will continue its three flights weekly to Barbados in the winter months with Virgin Atlantic.

The decision was made due to reviewing schedules as the UK emerges from the coronavirus pandemic.

Flights to Barbados were halted in January this year due to the Omicron variant just three months after announcing the flight route.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson said: “As we emerge from the pandemic, we’ve had to make careful decisions about our network, continually reviewing flying and holiday schedules.

“Unfortunately, we have had to take the difficult decision to suspend plans to operate Edinburgh-Barbados services this winter, with customers being contacted from this weekend to inform them of the cancellations and their options.

“We’re very sorry for disrupting customers’ plans, however, we know Barbados is a firm winter-sun favourite and we will continue to operate services from Heathrow and Manchester.”
