Virgil van Dijk makes bold Kevin de Bruyne claim as he declares admiration for Man City star

Pundits and fans have almost run out of words to describe Kevin de Bruyne. The Belgian maestro has been in fine form so far this season, bagging three goals and 12 assists in all competitions so far this term.

And the Manchester City midfielder produced another masterclass against Sevilla in the final Champions League groups stage match on Wednesday night, providing an assist just three minutes after stepping off the bench.

His perfectly-weighted pass picked out Julian Alvarez for City's second goal in a 3-1 victory as they rounded off the Champions League group stage in style.

Whilst praise is often showered upon the Belgian from pundits, fans and fellow players, one prominent rival has declared how he would love to play alongside De Bruyne.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has faced City ample times down the years in an ongoing rivalry at the top of English football.

Now, the Reds centre-half has admitted he would love to have De Bruyne as a colleague at Anfield – despite two clubs' Premier League rivalry in recent years as well as the fact that a move is almost totally unlikely to happen.

Speaking on The Overlap , in partnership with Sky Bet, van Dijk said: "(He's) Someone that I’ve never played with before but would love at Liverpool is Kevin De Bruyne.

"He’s unbelievable, and if he would’ve played at Liverpool, we would’ve gone even further than what we have done.

"He’s outstanding, good on the ball, he presses high, scores plenty of goals, and has every attribute of a modern-day midfielder and footballer in general."
