Virat Kohli's heartfelt message to Jay Shah

Virat Kohli has congratulated Jay Shah on his election as the new Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). On Tuesday, Shah, currently the BCCI Secretary, was elected unopposed and will replace Greg Barclay from December 1. He will serve a three-year term as the youngest-ever ICC Chairman. Shah is the fifth Indian to occupy this top ICC position.

Jay Shah is the youngest Indian among his predecessors—Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar—to assume this high-profile role. The Ahmedabad-based administrator was the sole nominee for the chairmanship.

“Many congratulations @JayShah on being elected as the ICC chairman. Wishing you great success ahead,” wrote Kohli in a congratulatory post on ‘X’.

Shah aims to expand the global reach and popularity of cricket, particularly with its upcoming inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. He recognized the importance of balancing multiple formats, promoting advanced technologies, and introducing marquee events to new global markets.

"I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council," Shah stated in an ICC release.

"I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalise cricket. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before," he was quoted as saying in the release.
