VIP reduces number of seats to contest

LUCKNOW: The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) has reduced the number of seats it is contesting in the ongoing UP assembly elections. The party, which is contesting its first election ever in the state, had initially announced to contest 165 seats but it will contest 102 seats now.

The party has decided to not field candidates on the seats where JD(U) has declared its candidates. VIP and JD(U) are alliance partners in Bihar government. JD(U) leader and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has recommended giving reservation for Nishads as SCs and that is the reason behind VIP backing off from fielding candidates on seats where JD(U) is in fray. JD(U) is contesting as many as 26 seats.

Besides, VIP has also not fielded candidates on seats which already have Nishad candidates, irrespective of the party, in the contest. “We have urged Nishads to support such candidates irrespective of the party they represent because it is for the sake of our samaj,” said VIP national president and founder, Mukesh Sahani.
