A violent ex who embarrassed his girlfriend of 17 years when he made her strip in front of other people and attacked her with a weapon has been locked up.
Abusive David Jeffcock was said to have regularly beat his former partner who he had an on and off relationship with for 17 years, a court heard.
Jeffcock, 53 and from Sheffield, was already on bail for the false imprisonment and wounding of a man who was attacked with a razor blade, a pool cue and knife in 2019 when he then attacked his partner in the home they shared earlier this year, Yorkshire Live reports.
A judge at Sheffield Crown Court described the initial attack on March 21 as a "nasty, bullying assault" during which Jeffcock beat his partner and branded her as an "Irish tramp".
The following day, he carried out another attack along with another man during which his partner suffered more severe injuries including a break to her arm.
The bloody attack was believed to have been carried out with a hammer.
The court heard that during a trial, his ex described herself as having become a “punch bag” and would be beaten “two or three times a week”.
She was grabbed by the hair, spat on, punched, kicked and strangled.
During one ordeal, she was made to strip as Jeffcock believed she had money on her and was hiding it.
She was also punched and hit her head against a radiator causing injuries to her jaw, eye, nose and ribs.
Jeffcock, of Whinacre Place, Sheffield, was convicted by a jury of controlling and coercive behaviour, racially aggravated assault and two counts of wounding with intent.
Part of the trial had resumed in his absence due to testing positive for coronavirus and he only found out on Friday that he had been convicted.
Mr Justice Andrew Baker described Jeffcock’s most brutal attack as a “terrifying ordeal” as he sentenced him to five years and eight months.
This sentence will run consecutively to the six-year sentence imposed earlier this year for the false imprisonment and wounding of the man at the home Jeffcock shared with his ex partner.
Upon hearing his sentence, Jeffcock said: “I can’t believe you believed her. It’s all wrong.”
