Vincent Kompany testimonial players confirmed as all-star cast honour Man City legend

Vincent Kompany's Man City testimonial is set to be a star-studded affair - as the club released the first names who have confirmed they will be appearing.

A City XI is due to play a Premier League All-stars XI on September 11 as a tribute to the Belgian defenders time at the club.

The former Sky Blues skipper swapped the Etihad for life in the hot seat as player-manager of Anderlecht at the end of last season.

Kompany had spent 11 years with City before his departure, and ended his time there by winning a prestigious domestic treble, scoring the goal that all-but clinched the Premier League title in the process.

Joining Kompany for his big match are his former City teammates Joe Hart , Joloen Lescott, Micah Richards, Pablo Zabaleta , Wayne Bridge, Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Samir Nasri, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Stephen Ireland and Craig Bellamy.

In the other dressing room, the Premier League All-stars have also revealed two members of their squad for the clash.

Former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey will lead the attack for City's counterparts, while ex-Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart is also confirmed to be involved.

Heskey made over 500 appearances in his career before hanging up his boots in 2016 after a stint with Bolton Wanderers.

Van der Vaart meanwhile retired more recently in 2018, after enjoying a glittering career which saw him play for Spurs, Real Madrid and Ajax, among others.

The match will be played in aid of the charity founded by Kompany - Tackle4MCR, which aims to reduce the amount of homeless people on the streets of Manchester.

All proceeds for the game will be donated to the cause.

Kompany was involved in a golden era for City, winning four Premier League titles, three FA Cups and four League Cups during his time at the club.
