Viktor Gyokeres: Myles Lewis-Skelly reacts as Arsenal 'put finishing touches on' striker deal

New video has emerged of Arsenal starlet Myles Lewis-Skelly reacting to the news that the Gunners are nearing a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

Standard Sport understands the Gunners are ‘putting the finishing touches’ on a deal to bring in the prolific Swede, currently of Sporting CP, after protracted negotiations.

The deal is worth £54.8million, with £8.6m in potential add-ons to follow.

It was the nature of those add-ons which held up the deal’s completion, but Arsenal are now confident that they will be able to get negotiations over the line. A five-year contract on the table for the 27-year-old.

It did not take long for the news to reach the Arsenal squad, who are currently on preseason tour in Singapore.

In a newly released video, full-back Lewis-Skelly can be seen celebrating the deal.

In the clip, he brandishes a phone displaying an Instagram post from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming the story.

Bearing a wide grin, he imitated Gyokeres’ signature celebration, clasping his hands in front of his face, before quoting Romano’s catch-phrase: “Here we go!”

He has also ‘liked’ the post, as have his Arsenal teammates Declan Rice and newly signed forward Noni Madueke.

The lack of an out-and-out striker was glaring in Mikel Arteta’s squad last season, and it is hoped that the addition of Gyokeres, who has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances over his two seasons with Sporting, will help the Gunners bridge the gap to title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

The signing continues what has been an ambitious window for Arsenal. The deal will take their total spending for the summer close to £300m after Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Madueke were already added.

A deal for centre-back Cristhian Mosquera is also expected to be completed in the coming days.
