Vikings’ playoff chances after win over the Packers

After their bye week, the Vikings lost two consecutive games to fall to 3-5. Minnesota’s playoff chances looked slim — in a year where it desperately needed a postseason berth.

A lot can change in two weeks. The Vikings pulled off two consecutive upsets to get back to .500. Minnesota now has a 59% chance of making the playoffs at the time this article was published, as reported by FiveThirtyEight.com.

For the Vikings, that’s what a win over an elite team like the Packers can do. Green Bay fell to 8-3 with the loss on Sunday. However, the Packers still have a 99% chance of making the playoffs as of Monday afternoon. Green Bay also has a 90% chance of winning the division.

Compared to the Packers, the only team with a greater chance of winning the Super Bowl is the Cardinals, according to FiveThirtyEight.com. Arizona, a team that beat Minnesota earlier in the year, defeated Seattle in Week 11 to move to 9-2 on the year.
