Vikings cut K Kaare Vedvik after trading 5th-round pick to Ravens for him

The Baltimore Ravens and general manager Eric DeCosta pulled off the fleecing of the century this offseason. Just a few weeks after trading punter/kicker Kaare Vedvik to the Minnesota Vikings for a historically-high fifth-round pick, he’ll hit the waiver wire after being cut, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The fifth-round pick Baltimore got in return for Vedvik still stands regardless of him being cut. It also ties the highest-round pick ever traded for a kicker in the history of the NFL.

Vedvik had been on fire for the Ravens, going 4-of-4 on his field goals in the first preseason game, including a long of 55 yards. Vedvik also punted twice for a total of 111 yards in that game, heating up his trade value. But after his trade to Minnesota, Vedvik struggled mightily. He went 2-of-4 in three games with the Vikings, with misses from 54 and 43 yards, as well as several misses during practice.

Vedvik will hit the waiver wire where all 32 teams will have a chance to put a claim in on him and sign him. With the number of teams that still have huge question marks in their kicking games, Vedvik won’t be unemployed for very long.
