Vikings and Giants have met three times in the playoffs

Throughout the course of the Minnesota Vikings’ 62 seasons, they have made the playoffs in half of them with a 21-30 record in their 51 playoff games.

In those games, the Vikings have played the New York Giants on three occasions all of which have occurred in the last 30 years. The first two games came in the Wild Card round and the other came in the infamous NFC Championship Game. All three games were played at the old Meadowlands.

In January 1994, the Vikings lost 17-10 in a game started by Jim McMahon and Phil Simms. That following offseason, the Vikings signed Warren Moon to start the 1994 season.

In December 1997, the Vikings overcame a 19-3 deficit to beat the Giants 23-22 in a classic game that saved Dennis Green’s job. This summer, Vikings Wire columnist Judd Zulgad joined me to talk about this game and the historical implications behind it.

In January 2001, the Vikings lost 41-0, often known as 41-donut and the game never felt close. There are some conspiracy theories that the Giants had hacked the Vikings’ play-calling communication and knew everything they were doing.

This will be the first playoff game between the two teams outside of the state of New Jersey and the Vikings hope to take advantage of it.
