Video shows Red Arrows flying over Wales for Armed Forces Day

The Red Arrows are among the gems of Britain's armed forces. And this video shows footage filmed inside the cockpit of a Red Arrows pilot as he and the team fly over south Wales and south-west England.

The Red Arrows performed the fly-past on Saturday to celebrate Armed Forces Day. They were performing at the Falmouth Air Show, Barnstaple, Plymouth and in Newport. Newport is the host city for Wales National Armed Forces Day 2023. Events taking place in Newport to celebrate Armed Forces Day included a military parade, the flypast and military exhibitions.

Armed Forces Day allows the public to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. There are lots of different events across the UK celebrating Armed Forces Day which is always celebrated on the last Saturday of June every year.

The forces say it is important to celebrate their members, saying: "Showing support for the armed forces provides a much-valued morale boost for the troops and their families."

Armed Forces Day is not a charity event but it has the support of several UK charities. It was originally called Veterans' Day and began in 2006. In 2010, Cardiff hosted Armed Forces Day with a military parade from Cardiff Castle to Cardiff Bay which was led by the then Prince of Wales and the now King Charles III. Royal Navy frigate HMS Kent was docked in Cardiff to take part in the events. An estimated 50,000 people attended the celebrations in the city. Llandudno hosted Armed Forces Day in 2018.
