A Thai airline employee is under fire after an online video clip showed her loudly and repeatedly scolding a bewildered Chinese passenger about his overweight carry-on bag.

The incident occurred at Don Mueang airport on Tuesday according to Facebook user Red Skull, who posted the video shortly after it ocurred .

The woman, a member of the ground staff wearing a blue T-shirt, is seen ranting loudly at the Chinese man in Thai about the airline’s carry-on luggage rule. He clearly does not understand a word.

Comments below the video were highly critical of the woman.

The administrator of the Facebook page posted a message with the video, “Normally, other airlines set the maximum weight for carry-on luggage at 7-8kg, but this airline allows only 5kg. The passenger seemed not to know the rule and his bag exceeded the limit. This drew the ire of the woman staffer, who kept scolding him in Thai. The passenger did not understand. Why didn’t she ask him politely to take some goods out.  The passenger may be in the wrong, he may not be aware of the airline’s weight limit. But her acting this way is over the top. She may have forgotten that many Thai passengers were also there.’’

Thai media reports that NewGen Airways on Wednesday offered an apology to the passenger involved, saying it would investigate the ground staffer’s conduct.

If found to have behaved improperly she would face appropriate punishment, ranging from a warning to dismissal.

The airline said passengers were allowed carry-on luggage of no more than 5kg per person. The passenger in the clip did not follow the rule.
