Video footage has captured the moment a pensioner on a mobility scooter had a near miss at a junction in Leigh.
The elderly man, who was captured driving on the road, was caught on camera at around 10.40am on August 23.
A driver, who does not wish to be named, was near Butts Bridge when he noticed the scooter in front of him.
He says the elderly man cut in front of him as he turned right at the junction, showing a “blatant disregard for the rules”.
He believes the man could have caused an accident if it weren’t for other drivers paying close attention.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News , he said: ”The man showed a blatant disregard for the rules. Everyone makes mistakes but he showed no courtesy or apology for what he did.
“I’ve had people say that he may just need educating. But I would argue that he should be educated before using the road not after it!
“For me this just shows why there should be more strict rules on mobility scooters on the road.
“Even worse than hitting my car, if he hit a child or caused a car accident involving a child passenger then who would pay for any potentially life-changing injuries to the child?
“I think he could very easily cause a crash with that behaviour.
“In this instance I was paying attention - as you should - and slowed down.
“But all it takes is someone to not have their eyes on the road for a split second and a crash can happen.”
