Victoria Beckham tears up mentioning Brooklyn in heartfelt Netflix speech amid family rift

Victoria Beckham made a touching mention of her estranged son, Brooklyn, as she gave a heartfelt speech at the London premiere of her new Netflix documentary.

The fashion designer, 51, attended the launch of her three-part series at the Curzon Mayfair on Wednesday, joined by husband David, sons Romeo and Cruz, and daughter Harper.

Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz were notably absent.

Getting emotional on-stage ahead of the screening, Victoria said: “My children - Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, Harper - and David, oh my God he’s not a child!

“I was doing so well without [prompt] cards as well! It’s taken this process to really be proud of what I’ve achieved and to realise finally that I am enough.”

The Daily Mail reported that she went on to thank her husband for persuading her to take part in the series, adding: “[Thank you to] my husband for convincing me and then forcing me, giving me no choice David.”

Victoria told the audience that making the documentary forced her to reflect for the first time on her career and family life.

“I very much live in the present, I'm always looking forward, I'm very ambitious, I dream really really big,” she shared.

“But this process forced me to reflect and look at my journey so far and it was a very emotional experience, I've never done that before.

“I actually probably think [it's like] a year's intense therapy to be honest and it really made me realise a lot. I want to thank my mum and dad for everything, my brother and sister.”

The new Netflix series, which premieres globally on October 9, traces her evolution from Spice Girl to fashion designer, exploring her drive, ambition and public image over three decades in the spotlight.

While Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz were not present at the premiere, the couple do make a brief appearance in the documentary — their first on-camera moment with the Beckham family since Boxing Day last year.

They are seen mingling backstage at Victoria’s September 2024 Paris Fashion Week show, where David and their younger children are shown proudly watching from the front row.

In a moving final scene, Victoria becomes emotional as she speaks about her need to make her family proud.

“It makes me quite emotional because you’re always trying to prove yourself to people. What is stopping you from just saying ‘OK, I’ve achieved it?’” David asks.

“Because I’ve spent so many years fighting and building that I feel now I have an opportunity and I don’t want to let that slip,” she replies tearfully.

“Who are you trying to prove it to?” David asks again.

“Maybe to you, you know of course I feel bad about all that time when I had to ask you to help me out,” she says tearfully. “When I saw yours and the kids' faces backstage after the last show it was not the first time but a real moment for me when I could see how proud of me you were.

“It feels good, I'm not going to lie, I'm proud and I'm not ashamed to say I'm ambitious and I've still got a lot that I wanna do.”
