Victor Orta has proven Premier League transfer acumen at Leeds United ahead of key summer window

Leeds United have got more value for money from their players than any other Premier League club this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side cost his club a total of just £118.8m in transfer fees to assemble, going by reported fees at the time of signing.

Only four other Premier League clubs’ squads cost less - West Brom (£93.7m), Burnley (£82.6m), and Fulham (£81.6m).

Despite this though, Leeds managed to finish ninth in the league this season, sandwiched in between Arsenal, whose squad cost £399.3m, and Everton, whose cost £361.1m.

Leeds have therefore finished eight places higher in the actual league table than they did in the transfer spending table, illustrating the outstanding work by Victor Orta and his team behind the scenes at Elland Road.

That’s a bigger gap than any other club, with West Ham having the next best record at six places higher as the Hammers secured Europa League football on the final day of the season to upset the established order with both Tottenham and Arsenal slipping outside the top six and only narrowly finishing above Leeds themselves.

It’s a remarkable achievement not only for Marcelo Bielsa and his players with Orta demonstrating his acumen in the transfer market in securing deals for Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Raphinha last summer upon their return to the Premier League.

With 59 points to their name this season, Leeds spent the equivalent of £2.0m in transfer fees for every point earned.

That’s the best record in the league.

Burnley have the next best record at £2.1m per point, followed by West Ham at £2.8m per point, relegated Fulham at £2.9m per point, and Crystal Palace at £3.4m per point.
