Victim of disgraced Lanarkshire doctor convicted of sex crimes speaks out about her traumatising experience

A victim of a disgraced Lanarkshire doctor has opened up on the traumatising sexual abuse she suffered that led to her bringing a friend to appointments to fend off the pervert's advances.

Airdrie GP Krishna Singh targeted 48 female patients over a 35-year period between 1983 and 2018 while working at medical practices in North Lanarkshire.

As Lanarkshire Live reported last week, the 72-year-old predator was found guilty of 54 charges.

Charges included groping, kissing and making inappropriate comments towards his patients - following a trial at Glasgow High Court on April 14.

His targets included pregnant women and a rape victim who he was examining at Motherwell police station in March 2008.

One victim, who asked to remain anonymous, has broken her silence in a bid to encourage other victims to come forward.

She told our sister paper, the Daily Record, how vile Singh "kissed her on the cheek," "touched her private parts" and "exposed her breasts" during an appointment when she was just 23-years old.

"Before my consultation he kissed me on the cheek," she said.

Singh is now facing a significant jail term when sentenced next month (POLICE SCOTLAND)

"I went in for chest pains, he sounded my chest and asked me to lift my shirt, which I did but only my bra was on show.

"He then reached forward, took my bra and lifted it to expose my breasts - he didn't ask for permission."

"I previously had thrush and, at the end of the consultation, he asked to see if it had cleared.

"I pulled my trousers down and, barehanded, he touched me in the private area.

"I felt uncomfortable, my anxiety went through the roof - I just wanted out of there."

The distressing consultation five years ago left the victim, now 28, mentally scarred.

"After the appointment I called my mum, she told me what he did wasn't right," she continued.

"I felt angry and disappointed that I hadn't realised how bad it was.

"I have clinical depression and I'm on medication.

"Singh got me back every 28 days to renew my medication instead of putting me on a repeat prescription.

"When I had to go back I always took a family friend. Nothing inappropriate happened, he kept it professional, while there was a witness.

"I dread to think what happened to others.

"I now always ask for a female doctor no matter what."

Speaking after Singh's conviction she said: "I think he's a cold, calculated sexual abuser who took advantage of his position of trust.

"He's vile and creepy and I hope no one has to ever suffer at the hands of him ever ever again."

Singh, who was previously given an MBE for his medical services, is now facing a significant jail term when sentenced next month.
