Vicis helmet rated as safest in the NFL after lab testing

The NFL and the NFL Players Association released the results of their annual lab study, done to test safety and performance of the helmets worn by NFL players.

Vicis, a Seattle-based company that counts Russell Wilson and Doug Baldwin among their users, once again had the highest rated helmet with their VICIS Zerol brand. Vicis topped a list of 34 different helmets, of which 27 were listed in the top performing group.

“The rankings are based exclusively on the ability of the helmet to reduce head impact severity measures in laboratory testing,” the poster released with the study results said. “Issues with helmet fit, retention, and long-term durability are not addressed in these rankings.”

Still, after this post came out last year roughly 50% of NFL players upgraded to a better performing helmet.

From the press release:

“Analysis of on-field game concussions for the 2015-2018 seasons showed that players wearing green helmets had a lower rate of reported concussions than those wearing yellow or red helmets. As of the final week of the 2018 season, only 32 players (less than 2% of total players) remained in one of the prohibited helmets.”
