Coronavirus panic buying sparks vicious fight between shoppers over toilet rolls

Shocking video shows three women in Australia brawling in a row over toilet roll amid coronavirus panic buying.

The clip was taken in a Sydney supermarket, where a mum and daughter are believed to have packed their trolley with the in-demand product - to the ire of others at the scene.

They are said to have queued for hours waiting for the Woolworths store to open in order to stockpile.

A police chief has likened the shameful incident to a scene from blockbuster series Mad Max.

The women piled their trolley with packs of toilet roll, and the brawl started when another woman reportedly tried to take one packet.

Pointing towards the trolley, their rival is heard saying: "I just want one pack."

Hysterical screaming can be heard as the three women grapple with each other.

One staff member is seen telling the women: "Look what you're doing. You're fighting over tissues."

A 49-year-old woman has been spoken to about the incident, while Bankstown Police are reportedly trying to identify the other two.

It comes amid growing fears of panic buying, with shelves across Australia bare as people stockpile.

Thousands of Australians are in isolation as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Acting Inspector Andrew New said: "There's no need for it. It’s not the Thunderdome, it's not Mad Max."

And he added: "Violence will not be tolerated, and anyone involved in this behaviour may be committing an offence and find themselves in court."

Woolworths has become the first store in Australia to ration toilet paper.
