A drug driver gave the finger to a witness before killing a couple while travelling on the wrong side of the road, a Victorian court has heard.
Baramee Jonorat killed Robert, 69, and Lynette Anderson, 68, after smashing into their vehicle on a Sunbury road in October 2019.
The 24-year-old was found with ice, ketamine and fentanyl in his system.
Jonorat appeared via video link before Judge Rosemary Carlin on Wednesday at the Victorian County Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of culpable driving causing death.
The deceased couple's son, Craig Anderson, said the incident was "totally avoidable".
"It was a careless and selfish act that left me devastated and angry," Mr Anderson told the court.
"I feel cheated ... my anger will always stay with me."
A witness told the court Jonorat drove straight at her from less than 100m away in the minutes before the collision.
The former plasterer then screamed at her and gave her the finger as he drove past the witness, who had moved into the emergency lane to avoid a collision.
Another witness saw a syringe full of clear liquid resting on the window trim of Jonorat's car after the crash and said his eyes looked "cloudy".
"There was something going on with him ... it was like he didn't know what was happening," the witness told police in a statement read to court.
The syringe wasn't analysed, but a toxicology report showed Jonorat used drugs on the day of the collision.
Experts said he wasn't speeding before the crash.
Jonorat will return to the County Court for sentencing on February 16.
