'Vertical take-off': Sunrisers Hyderabad smash fastest team hundred in the history of IPL

NEW DELHI: In a jaw-dropping and never-seen-before boundary-hitting exhibition, Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma on Saturday shattered powerplay records against Delhi Capitals.

Ripping apart the DC bowlers, both smashed the fastest team hundred ever in the history of the league.

As fours and sixes rained at the Arun Jaitley stadium in the national capital, Sunrisers raced to the 100-run mark in just 5 overs (30 balls), creating a new IPL record.

With the unbelievable batting display from the openers, Sunrisers pipped Chennai Super Kings to the fastest team hundred in the IPL.

In the 2014 edition, CSK smashed 100 in 6 overs against Punjab Kings.

Kolkata Knight Riders also scored hundred off just 36 balls in the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2017 edition.

CSK and Sunrisers then occupy the fourth and the fifth spots on the list of fastest team tons in 6.5 and 7 overs respectively.

While Head smashed a brutal 32-ball 89, his partner Abhishek cracked a jaw-dropping 12-ball 46.

Legendary cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar termed SRH powerplay blitzkrieg a 'vertical take-off'.

Amid a boundary fest at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Sunrisers also hit the highest ever powerplay score in T20 cricket.
