Verdure Watches And The Craft Of Designing Timepieces That Carry A Life Story

Verdure Watches, conceived as "wearable art," has spent the past 11 years redefining what a luxury watch can represent, something far more intimate than a status symbol, and far more enduring than a fleeting trend. Under the direction of founder Eddie Johnson, each creation is meant to carry the weight of personal narrative, carefully translated into form, movement, and detail.

The company's foundation originated from Johnson's early affinity for drawing. He recalls how childhood sketches evolved into an artistic practice, eventually combining with an entrepreneurial instinct that surfaced during Johnson's teenage years.

Then, a fascination with watch components in college became the turning point. He began developing ideas around assembling and selling parts, which matured into a more ambitious vision: designing original timepieces rooted in artistic expression. By 2015, Verdure Watches introduced its first collection, marking the formal beginning of a brand that would steadily gain recognition within the luxury space.

"From just an idea to something tangible, that journey means everything," Johnson explains. "There's a starting place for everyone, and what happens between that starting point and success is where the real story lives."

He carries that mindset across the brand's portfolio, most notably in a signature piece titled Journeyman GMT. Designed as a tribute to the essence of progress, Johnson highlights that its hour markers resemble airplane windows, which stand as a metaphor for perspective and forward motion. The watch, Johnson notes, operates as a technical instrument and a symbolic artifact, inviting its wearer to revisit milestones while continuing toward future ones.

Milestones for the company mirror that same narrative arc. Verdure Watches has been featured on billboards in Times Square. "Seeing the brand there, in a place where the world converges, reinforced what this could become," he says. Recognition followed, including a distinction as one of the Top 100 Luxury Jewelry and Watch Brands globally by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards. The brand was also acknowledged as one of the Top 25 Best Luxury Watches, mentioned alongside major watch brands. Johnson views every accolade as a confirmation that the trajectory remains intact.

Craftsmanship at Verdure Watches extends beyond aesthetics into a deeply collaborative process. Clients, he notes, enter into a design dialogue. Johnson works closely with each individual, drawing out personal stories, inspirations, and preferences before translating them into visual concepts. He says, "I get to understand who they are and what matters to them. Then I bring that into the design so it becomes something they can hold onto for a lifetime."

Every commission unfolds methodically, beginning with the internal mechanics. Johnson notes that movement selection and functional requirements are established first, forming the structural core. From there, he layers design elements to establish harmony between performance and appearance.

"It's like the saying, beauty comes from within. The watch works the same way. Once the inside is right, everything else can follow," he says.

Further amplifying the experience at Verdure is its approach to documentation. Johnson explains that each client receives a custom-designed comic-style book which details the creation of their watch, encompassing every detail in every hand-drawn illustration. The sketch is designed to offer a tangible record of the journey, transforming the purchase into a multi-dimensional experience.

Johnson says, "It will allow our customers to revisit the emotional and creative process long after the watch is created. The journey stays with them, on their wrists and on their minds."

Highlighting the personal resonance of this approach, Johnson recalls a moment at a showcase where a visitor, initially captivated by the displayed sketches, returned later through his spouse to commission a custom piece. "We were able to deliver a really personable experience. That's the most special thing: being able to really connect with people and learn about them," Johnson adds. The bespoke watch then stood as a shared memory, carefully constructed and permanently preserved.

The company plans to launch a flagship store before the year's end, creating a physical environment that reflects the brand's ethos. International expansion is firmly on the horizon, alongside a gradual evolution into a broader luxury lifestyle label encompassing jewelry and accessories. The goal, he notes, is to extend the narrative-driven work across multiple product categories while maintaining the integrity of the design process.

Johnson says, "Persistence and patience have been everything. There are moments where it feels overwhelming, but the vision keeps pulling you forward." With that steadiness at its core, Verdure Watches continues to operate with each timepiece marking not only the passage of time, but the depth of experience contained within it.
