Vera's Riley Jones has 'incredible' moment in New York as series finale airs

Riley Jones might not have been in the country to watch the Vera series finale on Sunday night, but he was reminded of just how popular the ITV drama is the world over as he arrived in New York.

North East actor Riley has been on Vera for 12 years no,. right since its debut back in 2011, playing the role of DS Mark Edwards, a colleague of no nonsense sleuth DCI Stanhope. He often tweets along with Vera fans when each new episode of the show goes out on a Sunday night but, having revealed he was unable to watch the penultimate one, due to being on a ski holiday abroad, Riley was also away from a TV set when the series finale went out at the weekend.

However, while he didn't get to watch The Darkest Evening at the same time as millions of viewers back home, he came face to face with Vera in the Big Apple, after spotting a huge billboard to promote the drama's new series launching over in America. Riley uploaded a photo of himself in New York looking up at the billboard and wrote: "Stood in Times Square looking up at a billboard for a show I’m in! A show that has been part of my life for over 12 years. A show that is about to air it’s 50th episode. A show that highlights our beautiful North East to the world. Super proud and eternally grateful."

Riley's Twitter photo got a big reaction from Vera fans, with one responding: "Ahh wow, awesome photo Riley, I’m so glad you are part of Vera - it’s an amazing series that I’m also grateful for and super proud it’s based in the North East. I hope everyone is well and having a brilliant 2023 and congratulations on the 50th episode."

Another of the actor's followers tweeted: "Wow that's amazing !! Vera in New York. Congratulations to the cast and crew on the 50th episode, I can't wait. I'm going to miss you all on Sundays," with a third joking: "I'd literally be stopping passers by to tell them I'm in it!"
