Venus Williams claims first US Open doubles win in 11 years

Venus Williams US Open Leylah Fernandez

Venus Williams secured her first Grand Slam victory in four years, winning her opening women's doubles match at the US Open.
Partnering with Canadian Leylah Fernandez, Williams defeated the sixth seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok and Ellen Perez with a score of 7-6 (4) 6-3.
Williams expressed gratitude to Fernandez, saying she was the “best partner I’ve ever played with outside of Serena”.
It was Williams’ first US Open doubles win since 2014.
In singles, second seed Iga Swiatek overcame a second-round challenge, defeating Suzan Lamens 6-1 4-6 6-4.
