VCT Game Changers Championship 2025 narrows to Top 6: A quickfire recap

As the final official VALORANT tournament of the year, the VCT Game Changers Championship has so far delivered a number of spicy matchups, filled with unpredictable strategies, chaos, and heart-racing experiences.

With only six of the original ten teams remaining, the championship is about to enter its most cutthroat stage yet: the Upper Finals, the high-stakes lower-bracket battles leading into the Lower Finals, and finally, the Grand Finals. If you want to stay updated before tuning into the next Game Changers VALORANT match, here’s a quick rundown of all the series we’ve seen so far.

Ninetails 2-0 Nova Esports (Upper round one)

Kicking off the tournament, both Ninetails (Pacific) and Nova Esports (China) came out swinging, keeping fans on the edge of their seats with unpredictability and chaos. The series wrapped up with Nova taking a 2-0 victory and moving on to face G2 Gozen in the Upper Quarterfinals, while Ninetails were sent down to prove themselves in the lower bracket.

Standout player: Kelly “shirazi” Jaudian (Nova)

MIBR GC 2-1 GiantX GC (Upper round one)

This series was intense, especially with all the back-and-forth action across the first two maps. The third map, however, swung decisively in MIBR’s (LCQ) favor, as they dominated to secure a spot in the Upper Quarterfinals and sent GiantX (EMEA #3) down to the lower bracket.

Standout players: Nicolas “srN” Niederauer (MIBR), Paula “bstrdd” Naguil (MIBR)

Xipto Esports 0-2 Karmine Corp GC (Upper Quarterfinals)

As Pacific’s first VCT Game Changers seed, Xipto earned a direct slot in the Upper Quarterfinals. But despite their regional dominance, they couldn’t withstand Karmine Corp’s momentum, suffering a 0–2 defeat and dropping into the lower bracket.

Standout player: Azra “alkyia” Erin (KC)

KRÜ BLAZE 0-2 Team Liquid Brazil (Upper Quarterfinals)

Both KRÜ (LATAM) and Team Liquid (Brazil) secured direct slots in the quarterfinals thanks to their dominant regional performances. That said, Team Liquid put in excellent work against KRÜ, taking a clean win with sheer mechanics and disciplined execution.

Standout players: Vitoria “Bizerra” Vieira (TLV), Julia “Jelly” Iris (TLV)

G2 Gozen 2-0 Nova Esports (Upper Quarterfinals)

Nova looked strong in their opening match against Ninetails, but it takes more than that to stand up to G2 Gozen, one of the world’s best Game Changers VALORANT teams since the tournament’s inception. As expected, G2 closed the series 2-0, advancing to the semifinals and sending the only China representative down to the lower bracket round two.

Standout player: Esllene “Akita” Xu (G2G)

SR Gold 2-0 MIBR GC (Upper Quarterfinals)

This matchup echoed the grand finals of the 2024 VCT Game Changers Championship, though with different rosters this time around. MIBR GC appear stronger than they were last year, while Shopify are without florescent, their former star duelist. Even so, Shopify stayed as solid as ever, just as they’ve been all season. MIBR fell 0–2 and were sent to lower-bracket round two.

Standout player: Nicole “Noia” Tierce (SRG)

Xipto Esports 1-2 Ninetails (Lower round one)

The second lower-bracket series brought another three-map clash between Xipto Esports and Ninetails, with both teams giving it their all to stay in the tournament. It was also a rematch of the grand finals of the VCT Game Changers Pacific circuit. Ultimately, Xipto couldn’t hold up against Ninetails’ aggression and mechanical superiority, thus becoming the first team to be eliminated from the championship.

Standout player: Park “332” Min-ju (NTZ)

KRÜ BLAZE 2-1 GiantX GC (Lower round one)

As the tournament’s first knockout series, both teams had everything to lose. And as expected, the first two maps were filled with uncertainty and chaos, with both sides fighting to stay alive. In the end, KRÜ came out on top after a long back-and-forth battle, eliminating GiantX from this season’s Game Changers.

Standout player: Caue “dods” Fernandes (KRÜ)

MIBR GC 2-0 Ninetails (Lower round two)

As a grand finals contender at the 2024 Game Changers Championship, MIBR GC entered this elimination series with a lot to prove. Meanwhile, Ninetails stood as the last remaining Pacific representative, adding pressure on their side as well. Unfortunately for them, MIBR’s strategies and firepower proved too strong to withstand, and the Brazilian squad swept the series with a commanding 2–0 win.

Standout players: Nicolas “srN” Niederauer (MIBR), Paula “bstrdd” Naguil (MIBR)

KRÜ BLAZE 2-0 Nova Esports (Lower round two)

This series ended up being another one-sided result on paper, but Nova didn’t go down without a fight against KRÜ. The Chinese roster came close to taking the first map on Split, but KRÜ held their nerve, and pushed it to overtime (the tournament’s first, by the way), then closed it out in their favor eventually. On the second map, KRÜ sealed the deal pretty quickly and dominantly, closing Nova’s tournament journey in seventh place.

Standout players: Montserrat “mmonch” Gutierrez (KRÜ)
