KOTTAYAM: Snake catcher Vava Suresh who was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) here after being bitten by a cobra on January 31, left for his home in Thiruvananthapuram after his discharge from hospital on Monday. Suresh thanked the doctors and other staff at the MCH, minister V N Vasavan and well-wishers across the globe who prayed for his speedy recovery.
Suresh told reporters while leaving the hospital that Vasavan is a God-like figure for him. "Vasavan sir arrived quickly at the private hospital where I was initially admitted. He made all arrangements to shift me to the MCH without any delay. It would be the first time a vehicle of a minister went as a pilot vehicle for a common man," said Suresh. He also said that Vasavan had literally "arrested" him and put him in the critical care ICU of the MCH.
"I reached MCH in 15 minutes and was soon shifted to the critical care ICU. The entire team of doctors were waiting there to give medical support," he said. Suresh said that all this was possible due to Vasavan and the entire medical team of the MCH.
He added that surviving the cobra bite was like a second life for him. Though he had been bitten by poisonous snakes several times earlier, he felt it would be difficult to come out this time as soon as he was bitten. He also thanked the doctors of Bharath Hospital who gave him CPR and revived his condition.
He also said that the injuries he sustained in an accident last month has prevented quick reflexes while catching the cobra. He also said that the residents from Kurichy have been calling him for several days. However, due to the injuries sustained he couldn't go earlier.
Meanwhile, Vasavan said that the biggest demand that came from Suresh's well-wishers after he was admitted in MCH was the need for a house for him. Though many had suggested this to him earlier, he had always refused such an offer. "However, when I told him about it this time, he agreed, said Vasavan. The minister added that the house would be built by the CPM-lead Abhayam Charitable Trust on the land belonging to Suresh's mother in his village.
