Van driver dead after horror three-vehicle crash in Scots village

A young van driver has died following a three-vehicle crash in South Lanakrshire.

The horror smash took place on the A70, also known as Ayr Road, in Rigside on Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 10am.

Two vans and a car were involved; a Vauxhall Astra van, a Volkswagen Crafter van and a Nissan Micra car.

The driver of the Vauxhall van, a 29-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin are aware.

A woman in the Nissan was rushed to University Wishaw Hospital for treatment.

Police said her injury is 'non-life threatening'.

Nobody in the Volkswagen van was injured.

Lanarkshire Police Division released a statement on Monday afternoon.

Local officers expressed their condolences and urged any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant Craig McDonald said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.

"Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to this incident and I would urge any witnesses who have not yet spoken to an officer to come forward.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam or any other footage which could help our enquiries.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting reference 0721 of January 10."
