Valorant breaks Twitch viewing record with a whopping 1.7 million concurrents

Valorant, the new shooter game from League of Legends' studio Riot Games, isn't even available to play yet and it's already had a record-breaking day on Twitch.

Valorant hit peak concurrent viewers of 1.7 million on Tuesday, successfully breaking the record for 'single-day hours watched' in a single game category, with 34 million hours watched already.

The game, mind you, isn't even out yet as it's in closed beta.

If you want to play, there's a chance you can still get a closed beta code. You just need to link your Riot Games and Twitch accounts and then watch specific streamers on Twitch playing the game.

Riot handed codes out to some of the most popular Twitch channels, who were then tasked with handing keys out at random to viewers to get a taste of the action.

From huge names in the shooter platforms including summit1g, whose stream of playing Valorant topped more than 200,000 viewers at one point, and others like Dr DisRespect, watching their streams will give you a good chance to earning yourself a closed beta key for the upcoming game.

Valorant is slated for a summer release on PC. It will be Riot’s first big PC title in recent memory as for the last decade the studio has focused on growing the exemplary strategy game, League of Legends.

Clearly, the company is looking to expand beyond LoL, and to this end it has focused on a bunch of new and different titles — Valorant being the main event.

Another new game to look forward to from Riot is Legends of Runeterra, which is set to be released this April. The collectable card game looks like it's trying to rival Blizzard's Hearthstone, however, it's set in the world of League of Legends.
