Uttarakhand: Brother of BSP’s Laksar candidate found distributing notes, arrested

ROORKEE: The brother of BSP’s candidate from Laksar candidate Mohammad Shahzad and one other person were arrested on Sunday after they were found handing out Rs 500 notes to voters in a village. Laksar Police seized an SUV with 323 currency notes of Rs 500 from them.

Yashpal Singh Bisht, in-charge of Laksar police station, said they were on routine patrolling on Sunday morning when an informer told them that some members of a political party were distributing cash to the people in Peepli village. “We found two men, identified as Ameer Alam, Shahzad’s brother and Sabir Tehsin, a resident of Toda Kalyanpur village, distributing currency notes to some voters of the village,” he said. The car that was found with a total of Rs 1,61,500 cash, with Rs 500 notes in envelopes, was issued to Shahzad by the administration. All three were arrested under relevant sections 171-E (punishment for bribery), 188 (disobedience to duty promulgate by a public servant) of IPC and Disaster Management Act.
