Uttar Pradesh: Students & teachers celebrate Yoga Day at St Joseph’s College

PRAYAGRAJ: Driven by enthusiasm and the motivation to thrive in a society which is healthy, both physically and mentally, the students and staff of St Joseph’s College came together to celebrate International Yoga Day here on Tuesday.

Principal Rev. Fr. Thomas Kumar, Head Master Rev. Fr. George Medapalli, and staff coordinator Jyoti Dubey also participated in the celebration along with the students.

The function began with a brief introduction on Yoga Day by Mohd Shabi Rafique, sports coordinator and a Yoga therapist. This year, apart from the students, the college also invited the parents to make them understand the importance of Yoga in their life. Rafique explained that through the regular practice of Yoga, students could achieve better mental and physical health.

The session started with the Yoga prayer from Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta followed by the general warm-up exercises, Surya namaskar, simple cultural asanas and Pranayam. He told the gathering that the International Yoga Day is a gift to the world by Prime Minister Narendra Modi who put forward the proposal on December 11, 2014 in the United Nations General assembly which was accepted by 193 nations.
