Uttar Pradesh: Man kills girlfriend as she was putting pressure on him for marriage

BIJNOR: A body of a 19-year-old girl was found next to a drain at Athwariwala village under Rehar police station limits on Saturday. The girl went missing on June 4, while she was returning home from her college. She belonged to Barhapur town and was a student of class 12.

Police said that the girl's family approached the cops on June 16 to file a missing complaint. Her family suspected the involvement of a 21-year-old man from Athwariwala village as he frequented her house. Rumours about their "affair" were doing rounds in the village.

Police on Friday picked up the man and during questioning he confessed to his crime. The man told police that he had an affair with the girl and took her to a hotel on June 4 on his bike when the latter allegedly exerted pressure on him to marry her. They got into a heated argument and in a fit of rage, he strangled her. Later, he took her body to his native village and buried her next to a drain with the help of a friend, who is at large. Bijnor SP Dharamveer Singh said, "The accused has been nabbed. Both are from different castes and villages. Police have also recovered a vehicle used in the crime."
