Rumors have been swirling around Hugh Jackman's potential appearance in Avengers: Doomsday ever since the actor returned as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. His name was notably omitted from the official cast list reveal, but that has never stopped us wondering if he could still make an appearance, especially given so many of his X-Men co-stars are set to star.
Jackman has been keeping tight-lipped on the possibility, but his latest answer has me wondering if he could be coming back after all. During the press tour for his new movie The Sheep Detectives (which has pretty great reviews, by the way), he was asked straight-out if he'll be in the upcoming Avengers movie.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he replied to Youtuber Adam Lupis. "Oh what is it? Dooms what? Who knows?" Now, I get that it's a pretty clear shutdown of the question, but that certainly feels like a rehearsed Marvel secrecy response. If not, I'd expect Jackman to reminisce a bit on playing the character, a bit like how his co-star James Marsden did when he was asked about Jackman not being in the film.
It seems like I'm not alone either with fans on Instagram reacting to the video exactly the same way. "I'm glad he's coming back! Nice of him to confirm it," one wrote, while another added: "Yeah he's in it." A third commented: "I feel like at this point the movie would suffer if he's actually telling the truth and he's NOT in it."
This certainly wouldn't be the first time that a Marvel star has lied about returning. In fact, Chris Evans even debunked rumors he'd appear before his appearance was confirmed in the first trailer. What's more, when the cast was announced, it was suggested that more MCU stars would be back than named during that livestream.
Given the success of Deadpool and Wolverine as well as the appearance of so many X-Men stars, I just can't imagine how Jackman wouldn't appear in some form in the upcoming Marvel movie. And if he's really not, then surely Avengers: Secret Wars is waiting for him.
