Uttar Pradesh: Irked locals put up sarcastic posters to protest against damaged road, waterlogging in Agra

AGRA: To protest against a pothole-riddled road and water-logging in the area, people of 20 colonies located on Shamshabad road in the city of Taj placed sarcastic posters thanking the public representatives for the “newly developed’ road.

The sarcastic posters read: “The untiring efforts of all the concerned public representatives in the construction of the new road is incredible. Residents regret not being able to welcome the public representatives for the work done.”

The locals allege that they have been suffering due to over 300 metres long damaged road and water logging in the area for the last six years. They have met all the public representatives and authorities, including MP, MLA, district council president and senior officials of the Agra municipal corporation, Agra Development Authority and district administration. "But so far. no action has been taken". The area is represented in the legislative assembly by the UP cabinet minister Baby Rani Maurya.

Maruti city resident Satyaprakash Rawat said, “The poster has been placed as a mark of protest and to highlight problems we have been facing due to poor road infrastructure and water logging in the area. We took the step after public representatives, despite being apprised about the situation several times, failed to find any solution”.

Ramraghu colony resident Ramshanker Agarwal said, “Over 20,000 people of 20 colonies are suffering due to the poor road and waterlogging. All these colonies are approved by the Agra Development Authority and come under the jurisdiction of the Agra Municipal Corporation. We are fed up making rounds to the public representatives. They provide assurances but do not take any action.”

Meanwhile, when asked about the situation, Agra (rural) MLA Baby Rani Maurya said, “I have taken cognisance of the matter related to poor road and waterlogging causing inconvenience to the residents of colonies on Shamshabad road. I will talk to the civic authorities in this regard. If need be, I will get the required work done from MLA-LAD funds.”
