USWNT’s 2019 Women’s World Cup kits celebrate iconic 1999 victory

The U.S. women’s national team will defend their 2015 World Cup title in France this summer with some pretty sharp new kits.

The new kits, which were introduced Monday in France, are a throwback to the 1999 championship team. The mostly white home kit features a red and blue stripe along the sleeve as well as three stars above the logo, a nod to the team’s three World Cup championship titles in ’91, ’99 and 2015.  The back panel features “a tonal gray print” of each of the 50 states.

The away kits are a vibrant red paired with blue socks, and will feature an abstraction of the American flag across the back.

As the team prepares to defend their World Cup title, they’re also in the midst of a gender discrimination lawsuit against U.S. Soccer in their fight for equal pay.
