The USMNT travel to Qatar hoping to progress through the so-called 'group of death' and progress to the knockout phase with the young and exciting team which Gregg Berhalter has at his disposal.
It has been eight years since the USA competed in a World Cup, after they missed the 2018 tournament having failed to qualify. This means that many of their young squad does not have much major tournament experience, with players such as Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie too young to have played a role in 2014, where Jurgen Klinsmann's side reached the last-16.
They face a tough task this time around, having been placed in the group with the highest average world ranking of any in the tournament. They will face Wales in their opening Group B fixture who are ranked 19th before taking on England who are fifth before rounding off their group stage to face Iran in 20th.

However, despite the tough task on paper, the USMNT's ranking of 16th suggests they are the second best team in this group on paper and could well be the favourites to make the knockout rounds.
