Jürgen Klinsmann has named a squad dominated by MLS players for USA’s friendly against Mexico on Wednesday.
With the fixture falling outside of an official Fifa international break, the vast majority of the players are from North American clubs. Only DeAndre Yedlin (Tottenham) and Julian Green (Hamburg) are currently playing in Europe. Thirteen of the squad play in MLS, with five from Mexico’s Liga MX.
Klinsmann will be without two key players: Jozy Altidore, who was sent off during USA’s draw with Switzerland, and the injured Clint Dempsey. Brek Shea, who has scored twice in his last four internationals, and Michael Bradley, who has four against Mexico, are both in the squad.
USA have yet to lose against Mexico under Klinsmann, who has steered the team to two wins and three draws against their local rivals. Both teams will play in this summer’s Gold Cup, which the US will co-host with Canada.
