US warns of terror attacks and kidnappings against foreign nationals in Turkey

The US has warned of terror attacks and kidnappings against foreign nationals in Turkey.

Americans have been advised to be cautious in areas such as large office buildings or shopping centres.

U.S Consulates across the country have been closed and visa services suspended.

According to a security alert, "The U.S Mission in Turkey has received credible reports of potential terrorist attacks and kidnappings against U.S citizens and foreign nationals in Istanbul, including against the U.S. Consolate General, as well as potentially other locations in Turkey."

It continued: "U.S citizens are advised to exercise heightened caution in locations where Americans or foreigners may gather, including large office buildings or shopping malls.

"All American Citizen and visa services at U.S Mission in Turkey's facilities (including U.S Embassy-Ankara, U.S Consulate General-Istanbul, U.S Consulate-Adana and the U.S Consular Agency-Izmir) will be temporarily suspended.

"Individuals with scheduled appointments will be notified by email with instructions on how to reschedule appointments."

The announcement comes after a US airforce attack against an Al Qaeda meeting in Syria’s Idlib, where a number of senior jihadis lost their lives.

According to the media centre of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Friday, said attacks by the Turkish army and affiliated groups have recently increased in northeast Syria.

The SDF said: "Artillery and mortar shells targeted the people in particular and inflicted a lot of material damages to the property of civilians in the area, intending to empty the area of its residents

“Many villages near the M4 international road were bombed by the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation army over the past three days, especially along Ain al-Issa line,” it added, noting that “flights of reconnaissance and warplanes accompanied the bombing.”
