US officials cancel Memorial Day weekend plans amid possibility of Iran strikes: Report

Is the United States planning fresh strikes on Iran? Several members of the US military and intelligence community have cancelled their Memorial Day weekend plans amid preparations for possible military action against Iran, according to CBS report.

This comes more than two months after US President Donald Trump launched the ambitious Operation Epic Fury targeting the Tehran regime.

Defense and intelligence officials have begun updating recall rosters for American installations overseas. The move comes as troops stationed in the Middle East rotate out of the region, part of a broader effort to reduce the US military footprint there while concerns over Iranian retaliation remain high.

President Trump, meanwhile, posted on social media that "circumstances pertaining to Government" would keep him from attending his son Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding this weekend. He had planned to spend Memorial Day weekend at his New Jersey golf property but will now head back to the White House.

The US and Iran have largely avoided direct strikes since a temporary ceasefire took effect in early April, creating room for indirect negotiations on a more permanent agreement.

Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, honours American service members who have died while serving in the armed forces.
