US Air Force plane circles Scots airport after 'declaring emergency'

A US Air Force plane due to land in Scotland's Prestwick Airport circled over Britain after 'declaring an emergency' on Tuesday night.

The Boeing C-17 military transport aircraft circled over the Scots airport numerous times and was due to touch down at around 9.30pm, according to the FlightRadar website.

Around an hour later, the plane appeared to be heading south into England and over the Pennines national park.

It is unclear what the plane's destination is at this time.

Unconfirmed reports online have alleged there was an issue with the aircraft's nose gear.
