Urgent recall issued on popular milk product sold at Supervalu, Tesco, Dunnes and more

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a recall notice on a popular brand of Rice Milk after it was found to contain undeclared gluten.

According to the notice published on June 8, Alpro Rice All Plant, Rocky Rice beverage was found to be mislabelled as gluten-free.

Anyone who is coeliac or intolerant of the protein will become ill if they ingest this product - making it unsafe.

Point-of-sale notices are in place and customers can return the affected product in-store.

All batches of the drink that are one litre in size with a best before date of 31/12/22 and a batch code: L 090 2 with time stamps from 15.07 to 18.24 are included in this notice.

A statement from the FSAI reads: “Gluten was detected in the above batch of Alpro Rice All Plant, Rocky Rice beverage, with time stamps from 15.07 to 18.24 affected.

“The product is labelled as gluten-free and a cereal containing gluten is not declared on the list of ingredients.

“This may make the affected batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of cereals containing gluten.”

Coeliac disease is a common condition in Ireland, with it affecting around 1 in every 100 people.

If you suffer with it and accidentally eat something with gluten in it, you may have symptoms including:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Anemia
  • Bloating or a feeling of fullness
  • Bone or joint pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Heartburn
  • Itchy, blistery rash
  • Headaches or fatigue
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Nausea
  • Nervous system injury, including numb or tingling hands or feet, balance problems, or changes in awareness
  • Weight loss
