Urgent recall for meat, fish, and desserts sold in Dunnes, Tesco, Lidl, and other Irish supermarkets

A number of foods have been recalled over safety fears by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.

The FSAI has advised householders to check their fridges and cupboards and avoid consuming the implicated items. A number of food allergen alerts have also been issued for several popular foods.

These products have been sold in various major supermarkets such as Dunnes, Tesco, Lidl, and more. A notice on the FSAI website said: "Food alerts are notifications issued by the FSAI to official agencies and food businesses or other businesses relating to an identified hazard i.e. a biological, chemical or physical agent in, or condition of, food/food contact materials with the potential to cause adverse health effects.

"Food allergen alerts are issued by the FSAI regarding the possible risk to consumers with food allergies or food intolerances from a particular food or batch of food. Reasons why food allergen alerts are issued include, the undeclared presence of an allergen or inadequate/incorrect allergen labelling."

Cadbury chocolate desserts (FSAI)

Several batches of these desserts sold in some Lidl stores are being recalled due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The symptoms of a Listeria monocytogenes infection can be mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea but in rare cases the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

Dunnes Stores Smoky BBQ Pork Loin Chops

Dunnes Stores Smoky BBQ Pork Loin Chops (FSAI)

Batches of the Dunnes Stores Smoky BBQ Pork Loin Chops have been recalled due to the presence of Salmonella. This batch was sold as fresh and is past its use-by date, however, the label states it is suitable for home freezing.

The following products have been recalled:

Pack size 400g and the approval number IE 538. The batch code is 104 with the use-by date of 2204/2023.

Guastalla Green and Black Pitted Olives

Guastalla Green and Black Pitted Olives (FSAI)

A batch of Guastalla Green and Black Pitted Olives with a pack size 100g and approval number IE 4071 EC is being recalled. Italicatessen is recalling the implicated products due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

Customers have been asked to not eat the product.

Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon

Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon (FSAI)

The following batch of Wrights of Howth Oak Smoked Irish Organic Salmon has been recalled due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes:

Pack sizes: 120g, 240g, 350g; approval number: IE DN0022 EC.

Food allergens alert

True Natural Goodness Brown Linseed (Flaxseed) and Green Age Salad Mix

Mustard seeds were found in the batch of linseed used in the following batches of True Natural Goodness Organic Brown Linseed (Flaxseed) and Green Age Salad Mix Seeds & Kernels:

  • True Natural Goodness Organic Brown Linseed (Flaxseed); pack size: 5kg; best before 20/12/2023 to 07/01/2024 inclusive
  • Green Age Salad Mix Seeds & Kernels; pack size: 250g; batch code: 2233; best before date: 24/08/2023

Mustard is not on the list of ingredients so it may make the implicated batches unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of mustard.

Donnybrook Fair Shepherd’s Pie

Donnybrook Fair Shepherd’s Pie (FSAI)

A batch of Donnybrook Fair Shepherd’s Pie was mispacked with Donnybrook Fair Fish Pie. The implicated product is 400g with batch code 11 and use by date: 01/05/2023.

This product contains fish that is not declared in the list of ingredients making it unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of fish.

True Natural Goodness Garlic Sticks

True Natural Goodness Garlic Sticks (FSAI)

The garlic sticks contain peanuts, soya, and sesame which have not been declared in the list of ingredients making them unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts, soya, and/or sesame. The affected batches were 250g with the best before dates of 10/03/2024 to 16/04/2024.

The FSAI said the implicated product may also have been sold in shops labeled with the shop's own brand names; notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.

Tesco Free From Bran Flakes

Tesco Free From Bran Flakes (FSAI)

The implicated batches of Tesco Free From Bran Flakes may contain a small amount of another variant of cereal which contains milk and hazelnuts. These allergens have not been declared on the label making them unsafe for those who are allergic to or intolerant of milk and/or nuts.
