Updated look at Eagles salary cap situation after trade for RB Jordan Howard

The Philadelphia Eagles made a huge upgrade at the running back position, but thanks to the wizardry of Howie Roseman, the Birds still have cap space after making a huge trade. After trading for Jordan Howard, the Eagles should have around $21 million in cap space remaining for 2019 according to Over The Cap.

Howard has a $2 million cap hit for 2019, leaving the Eagles in position to acquire more talent via free agency or trade.

The Eagles strategy for this offseason seems clear in regards to adding talent now, for the cheap, while pushing money aside as they prepare to make Carson Wentz the highest paid player in football. Roseman could choose to roll over a subsequent amount of salary cap into next season, thus allowing that space to help pay Wentz salary, while the Eagles utilize a bevy of draft picks over the next two years to stay competitive on low salaries.
