Zach Cregger, director of horror movies Barbarian, Weapons, and the upcoming Resident Evil adaptation, said this next RE flick is going to be “fresh and edgy and weird.” While I am excited, given his track record, I hope the new protagonist equals Mila Jovovich's cool factor.
As per Insider Gaming (via The Hollywood Reporter), Zack Cregger, who is writing and directing the upcoming Resident Evil movie adaptation, commented on the flick's original and separate nature, saying it'll not follow the previous films' story. “That’s an original screenplay, by the way. It’s a weird story,” he said, adding he believes it'll turn out “fresh and edgy and weird” if all goes to plan.
Given that it's an adaptation of a series out of Japan, a country known for its exceptionally strange approach to horror, you'd expect it will be weird at least, if not outright mind-boggling.

However, there's nothing official regarding the Resident Evil movie save for these little bits and pieces Cregger gives out sometimes, so any information is enough to build hype. What would build a lot of my hype is the return of Milla Jovovich, the actress portraying the protagonist of those old quirky and cheesy Resident Evil movies, Alice.
At least, I'd like to see a protagonist as awesome as her. Leading the plot with a gun in hand, 2000s style, would genuinely bring a lot of nostalgia back for me, especially if Cregger and his crew picked only what “worked” in those old flicks, and we know a lot didn't, which is just a fact of life for early video game adaptations.
Female main characters are sort of my jam, particularly in the Resident Evil franchise, which has no shortage of heroic, kickass, awesome and cool women, much like Alice is in the OG movies. Guns, guts, zombies, and “the cool factor”—that is what I want to see in a new RE movie.
Yeah, and a more accurate adaptation of the story, since it's pretty good as is and doesn't really need a big Hollywood makeover.
