UP: Six injured in crude bomb attack,firing near Bade Hanuman temple

PRAYAGRAJ: A group of assailants came on bikes and hurled crude bombs and opened fire on former general secretary of Allahabad University Students’ Union Nirbhay Kumar Dwivedi and his aides near Bade Hanuman Temple at Bandhwa late Monday night injuring six persons and triggering panic in the area.

One of the assailants was nabbed by locals and handed over to Daraganj police.

SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey rushed to the spot after getting information and called a forensic team for investigation.

Police registered an FIR against four named and six unnamed persons on the complaint of Dwivedi in connection with the incident.

According to reports, Ritik Mishra, who is a Panda (priest) and member of Ramghat Aarti Samiti, had gone to Bade Hanuman Temple with his friend for ‘darshan’ on his birthday.

They came out of the temple where they met former AUSU general secretary Nirbhay Kumar Dwivedi. They were sitting around 50 metres away from the temple when five motorcycles stopped nearby.

Before Ritik and Nirbhay could notice anything amiss, the motorcycle-borne assailants hurled crude bombs at them and opened fire with country-made pistols. Ritik Mishra, Sarthak Shukla, Ishan and alms seekers Om Prakash, Manilal and Lalle sustained shrapnel injuries.

The sound of explosions sparked panic as locals rushed to the scene and managed to corner and nab one assailant.

SSP Shailesh Kumar Pandey and SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh also reached the spot. The nabbed assailant was taken into custody for questioning, police officials said.The injured were rushed to th e hospital.

Nirbhay Kumar Dwivedi filed a written complaint at Daraganj police station and claimed that the assailants had come to kill him. He named Vishal Singh, Ashutosh Thakur, Kartik Shukla, Shashwat Trivedi and their six unidentified accomplices in his complaint.

SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh said some youths were celebrating birthday of their friend when another group of youths hurled crude bombs at them.

“The assailants include some students and some minors. One of them has been detained and is being questioned. Preliminary probe suggests that there was some enmity between the two groups. Further investigations are on,” he added.
